I currently have a home that is approx. 15 year old, and in a need for an interior design makeover.
I don't plan on moving any walls, but if the design needs it, I can entertain that possibility. The only part of the home that I would like to change in a more drastic manner is the kitchen and would consider moving cabinets, appliances, island or even walls if necessary. The kitchen, dinette, and family room is all incorporated in one big open space and would like to keep that open space feel, as this is the space that we spend the most time in, especially in the weekends. Flat screen TV is set up in the family room above the fireplace so can be viewed in the kitchen, but I am open to move it if necessary for design element.
In the basement, I currently have a crude home theater that I would like to revise that would make it a feel of a more traditional home theater, although the space is large, and again would like to retain that open space feel. Most of the basement is finished, but there is a large room near the home theater that can be incorporated in necessary, but the room is already pretty large, and I like the alcove that projector shines onto.
The home is divided into a basement where there is a crude home theater, bathroom, bedroom, and a space that can be incorporated, that currently is used for storage. Please refer to blueprint that I had made and attached.
The first floor is the area of the home that we spend the most time in, and would put the most of my budget in, including the kitchen/family room.
It consists of living room, dining room, open kitchen layout that leads to family room and dinette area. I was thinking that I would like possible expand kitchen into the dinette area, but still keep a table there where we have breakfast and small meals.
Powder room, mud room, and office (that is already done and does not need updating).
Second floor had bedrooms and can be viewed in attached blueprint.
In the kitchen, I would like a set up for two different stations to work at that includes a sink, and dishwasher. I also thought that if the cost was not too much, I can expand the kitchen or second work area along the windows of one wall in the dinette area.
I would like granite in kitchen countertop.
I currently have wood floors in the kitchen that need to be refinished and can redo them with a different color, to keep the costs down and not have to replace the floor.
In the second floor (where bedrooms are, I would like to replace the carpet to other carpet as this would keep the cost down as well, or low cost wood if not very expensive.
On the second floor, the hallway layout is not set up well, and feel that some the hallways are long and narrow, not really set up well. Would like design to negate this effect if possible.
master bath I wold like to spend more money on to redo as well as master bedroom.
Would like large steam shower.
on the second floor, there is a large playroom, that I would like to convert to a library/kids family room upstairs.
I have two children that are girls and their ages are 10 and 8.
I would like to create a design that flows through well the entire home, keep to the budget as much as possible, create a beautiful open space in kitchen/family room.
Really open to many ideas and looking forward to your submissions.
I would like to spend approx. $150k on the home towards the first two floors including the kitchen, which I would like to keep to about 50-60k.
Basement, i would like to add another $25k for the remodel including the home theater set up.
Please feel free to ask me questions.
