I opted to move the cooktop/ oven on the left wall in order to obtain a large counter space and move the sink on an island with 3 seats. I used suspended cupboards over the counter and metallic shelves for the sink/ dishes area.
I think it is the optimal layout, you can see both rooms (the living& dining) from the kitchen. There's a lot of storage space, counter space and the room seems larger. The island and the fridge are close to the dining and the cooktop is behind the corner from the living room so as to not bother with smells from cooking and for easier placement of the hood.
You could try to polish the existing wooden floor, it looks in a good condition so there's no sense in investing in a new floor.
Ceramic tiles were used for the stove/ counter area to prevent splashing on the walls.
I used glass for the suspended cabinet doors but it can also be opaque - white, just like the rest. Basically the colors are up to you, but from the inspiration links I saw that you enjoyed the white ones with stainless steel and soft colors. The room now has an easy feel and the colors make the space look bigger.
Too bad there's nothing to do about the height. Some suspended light fixtures over the island would have looked very nice.
Another option would be to switch the cooktop and the sink but I think this works best as the hood is closer to the wall.
The double door fridge is closer to the island, which makes is easier to get vegetables/ meat and wash them cut them and only then going to the stove.
Thank you for your time and good luck!
