Thanks for checking out our kitchen project! We need your help, creativity and expertise in taking an interior built in 1971 and bringing it into the new millennium. This home is the "In-Law Quarters" that is attached to the main home. You can view the main home on this site under "Multi Family Addition" launched in March of 2014.
The current kitchen is more of a "Fischer Price" kitchen, but has potential to be a focal point of the home...with your help. In this project, we fully expect walls to be taken down and ceilings to be raised, so please do not run away after looking at the pictures of the existing structure.
Here are the "must haves":
Kitchen Island that will have the kitchen sink as well as seat 4 people.
Island needs to have under cabinet refrigerator
Island will house a standard dishwasher
Microwave (if possible).
Raised ceiling (from current 7 foot ceiling) with recessed lighting and accent lighting
where you see fit.
Remove or reduce wall between living room and kitchen.
Option to remove entire wall between kitchen and restroom/laundry room.
Plenty of cabinet space (there is NEVER enough).
Gas range (does not need to be more than 4 burners). We prefer a downdraft system.
The exterior wall of the kitchen adjacent to the living room and dining room has a sliding glass door that will need to stay.
This portion of the home is on a crawl space, so plumbing, electrical and ventilation can be drawn through the floor. The current ceiling is only 7'. Part of the construction will be raising it to 8'. The ultimate dimensions of the kitchen space can be up to 22' X 12.5'. The Excel Drawing displays in green the area involved.
Included in the files are blueprints, Excel Spreadsheet diagrams and pictures. The blueprints might be confusing as they display both the main home and the In-Law quarters. The In Law Quarters are shown toward the bottom of the page.
Counter tops, flooring and lighting are open to your suggestions. We have considered upper white cabinets with darker lower cabinets, but are open to your creativity. We tend to gravitate toward a more modern look - sleek lines and brighter colors.
If you were able to view our earlier contest for the Multi Family addition, you will see that we tend to be "over the top" clients. Any unique features, materials and ideas are most welcome. Of course, a budget is necessary, but we do not want you to feel constrained by a number. Consider this a blank space and have fun.
