My apartment is part of the old St. Patrick’s church in Denver. It’s small (715 sq ft) but very open and light. The front room is a general living area (kitchen, dining area, sitting area). I’d like to make it more functional in terms of storage, and more integrated in terms of design.
Everything is in pretty good condition, although my kitchen is 15 years old and a little “tired.”
My biggest problem is storage. I would like someplace to put more kitchen stuff (pots/pans/gadgets). I’d like to enlarge the kitchen, extending it toward the front door, and would like everything to be a little more integrated. I would like to have the same or similar cabinetry used throughout, maybe replacing the existing big cabinet and display cabinet for a more sleek, uncluttered, clean look. I’d like to keep my couch and dining room table, but am open to removing/moving/replacing any other furniture, lighting, etc.
- I would like a clean, sleek, simple, and modern design.
- I’d like a design for the whole from room. My preferred style is clean, simple, modern. For example, I love many of the designs I see in Dwell magazine, as well as some of the more modern IKEA kitchens.
I definitely plan to execute the project. My first priority is the kitchen, but because this is one room, I want to make sure I take the whole room into consideration.
I have a gas line behind the old electric stove and would love a gas cooktop and electric oven. Other than that, there’s nothing that can’t be moved or rearranged. I also have no overhead lighting over my couch although there are several electrical boxes. I would like under-cabinet lighting and maybe lighting on top of the cabinets in the kitchen area. In general, the lighting needs improvement.
I prefer lighter colors in this small space, so don’t want anything too “heavy.”
Definitely can’t have carpets due to animals (the existing rug is an indoor/outdoor faux sisal).
Nothing in particular. My primary interest is having a nice, simple, modern, uncluttered living space.
