Typical houses will create a hard barrier between inside/outside, structure/nature. A new facelift could offer an opportunity to question how a house facade could perform for contemporary living. Could the facade take on the vibrancy of its lush yard?
By extending out to align to the gable-roof soffit, a series of angled walnut panels punctuate the facade and allow the overall house figure to take on a more modern aesthetic. While a deep appearance and subtle angle allows for an expression of depth and playful rhythm.
Spanning between the wood panels around the living area (expect at the windows) is expanded metal mesh allowing ivy to grow up the house.
In the day time the deep walnut panels create a playful but sophisticated sequencing of depth and shadow against the white expanded metal mesh.
At night a series of garden spot lights illuminate the ivy wall expressing their natural vibrancy while the exposed metal mesh shimmers in the shadow.
