Thank you for the possibility of work on this exciting project.
My solutions features an opened plan ground floor, with the stairs and the utility rooms cornered in the dark back of the house. The kitchen opens up to the passageway from the entrance to the living area, allowing dynamic routes between the garden and the house. The 30cm storage wall would supply all the ground floor - from glasses and plates for the kitchen to the DVD collection. (The shelving can be built in, or made with a combination of shelves.) The stairs to the first floor rise from the middle of the house, bringing a feeling of awareness and connection of all inhabitants. The first floor is a very rational solution focused on getting the best proportioned and orientated rooms. The two children bedrooms are connected with an optional sliding doors, which when opened, create a large interaction space between the rooms. The master bedroom has a slightly more private ambiance, retaining the old fireplace and the two french windows making it a very light and airy room. The garden is conceived with reference to Jean Cocteau, an awaken dreamer. The entrance to the house is covered with pergola and an abundance of wisterias making it a very comfortable and dreamy space, sheltering the space for afternoon brunch. On the left side of the entrance would be a big rhododendron bush. The low flower bed on the south and the wisteria pergola above would create a lovely shadow, but would be opened to sunsets. The flowery pergola leads to the back garden, noticeably greener, which opens into a stone tiled platform, mimicking town squares. The fountain is placed on the back wall as a centre piece of the “square”. The outside fence wall is expanded with a bedding of ferns, enhancing the slightly dreamy effect of this garden. Between the pergola and the square would be a bench towered by an olive tree on one side and a fig tree on the other, making it a fantasmical memory reference point.(“The bench under a fig and olive tree).
Hope you like my proposal. Good luck!
